This is a non-exhaustive list of tips to help you manage the use of the iPad in your classroom. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or Tessa if you would like to contribute a tip of your own:

  1. The iPad is just another tool at your disposal. Use it when it adds value.
  2. Only allow pupils to use their iPad when you instruct them to do so or when they request permission to do so. You are in control.
  3. Therefore, insist that pupils close lids/put their iPads away when they are not being used.
  4. Sound or video recording of any kind is only permitted when directly instructed or allowed by you.
  5. Insist that pupils place their iPads on the desk like this: IMG_7513 and not like this: IMG_7512Not only does this allow for more ergonomic typing into the iPad, but it also makes it easier for you to see what the pupils are up to on their iPad as you walk around the classroom. It also has the added benefit of making it very difficult to photograph or video anything without your permission, as the camera is facing the table.
  6. Insist that pupils use their iPads as their homework planner, using the Reminders App at the end of every lesson.
