The Imperfect Subjunctive in Spanish

The Imperfect Subjunctive in Spanish is used in exactly the same way as the Present Subjunctive. Follow the same rules and you’ll be alright – the only difference is the time frame.

Use the Present Subjunctive when the sentence is framed in the present:

No me gusta que mis padres me riñan

But use the Imperfect Subjunctive if the sentence is framed in the past:

No me gustaba que mis padres me riñieran
