Year 6 get jobs at Kidzania

On Monday 7 March, Year 6 boys had a real treat – a trip to Kidzania to get employed!

After checking in at the departures lounge, we took off to the land of Kidzania – a new world where children do all the work and adults aren’t allowed. The boys chose from a range of jobs – air con engineers, pilots, news presenters, radio DJs, ambulance crew, police officers, parcel delivery force, surgeons, F1 pit team – the list goes on. Most importantly, the boys then earned ‘kidzos’  – the required currency in Kidzania. This money could then be banked or spent on goodies or food. Not surprisingly, some boys chose to become chefs to make their own burgers for lunch!

It was a fantastic day out and the boys loved the experience. But are they ready for jobs in the real world?

This half term, Year 4 boys have tried their hand at moviemaking. Using the Lego MovieMaker app, they have learned about techniques of ‘stop animation’ to plan, film and edit their own masterpieces.

We are Lego Engineers

This term, the boys in Year 3 have been working collaboratively in pairs to construct a variety of different mechanisms using Lego WeDo. The building can be very tricky using gears, pulleys, levers and belts, but when the models work it’s a great feeling!

We have made crocodiles, planes, monkeys, goalkeepers, Giants and much more. The motors for each model connect to the computer and then a programme is required to operate the mechanism.

Story Slam 2015

Jamie’s great account of the day’s contest at the Southbank Centre…

The first story was about Krusty the clown from the Simpsons who was trying not to get hit by a falling missile and used unusual weapons and deflected the missile with an umbrella. The second story was a pirate adventure, were a captain was attempting to find the indigo pearl although it was nowhere to be seen and a cat called storm who loves sardines which help her think found it just when the crew had left her and set off. The third story was about a spy fighting a robber who had stolen some files and the spy was named 009, similar to 007 which you all should know who is.

Now for the important one –  Tristan Robinson’s story from the Boys’ Prep school. This story was about a boy called Joe who wants to destroy Doctor Decay’s factory and he makes the sweet with the most sugar than any other. The problem for Joe is that his teeth were falling out fast and if this was for everyone it would cause a silent world.

The fifth story was about a child writing a diary about the sirens the moving and most war themed experiences. The sixth story was about a poor child, which lived in a house made of broken wood which had a giant hobby of football which he was exceptional at therefore he was in the England academy for football where they won against lots of teams but the last team was Germany therefore the last line was “did they win?” The seventh story was in the eyes of a duck which was on a walk and got interrupted by a big jawed creature and got saved by a old lady. The eighth story was the finalist from the Junior Girls’ school which was about a tree being aged 151 years old which is grown in a great spot because of the view, although in a normal day, a boy walks along and picks an apple of her mother’s tree and the child smacked the branch onto him. Because this happened the boy now owns the tree. The ninth story was an ice cream man making an ice cream although it was described as a god making a world.  Finally the tenth story was about the future where half the people in world are robots and, a boy works in a factory where unfortunately he did something wrong and by the end he gets turned into a robot like all the others.

Happily, Tristan got the best line award which was, “but he thought there was more to Doctor Decay than meets the mouth”. Now he gets 2 tickets to a festival at the Southbank Centre.

Well done to all the super story writers!
